New York, New York.

I've been known, on occasion, to run my mouth about New York City. Sure, it's the greatest city in the world, but that doesn't mean that NYC and I are always meant to be buds. Hell, NYC has kicked my ass more than once over the last 15 or so years. There was the failed Brooklyn experiment of 2007. Not to mention the unfortunate end to my previous job. I've sung "I Hate New York" by Thorns of Life way more than once in the last few months. On the other hand, NYC has been pretty good to me. I just earned my MA from the New School.  Growing up I had the city at my disposal whenever I felt like catching a train. I've seen countless Broadway plays (including Cabaret like 5 times), shows, concerts, etc. Some people never even get to see New York.

But after a long weekend that had me trek from Philly to New Brunswick to Toms River and elsewhere in between, I sat down to catch up with my online news. A quick scan of Gawker produced the following articles: "More Than 20 People Passed as Homeless New York Man Bled to Death" and "Ridiculous Summer Rentals, Real Housewives of New York City Edition." Nothing like some good old class discrepancy to remind me why I love to hate New York City. It's one of the few places on earth where people will stop to take cell phone pics of someone bleeding on the sidewalk. Score one for common decency and faith in humankind. Not.
