Greetings, hi, hello.

Welcome to my site. This is where I showcase my work and write about this thing called life. Enjoy!

Weekend coffee #105.

2020 is off to an … interesting start. I spent New Year’s Eve hot-tubbing with some buds, before taking New Year’s Day off from life almost entirely. All about balance. Now I’m frantically trying to catch up on a year that’s barely even started. Go figure. In the meantime, here’s what else I’ve been thinking about this week:

  • Commemorative Collectibles for the Last Decade. Happy to have Marie Kondo’d the crap out of my life. Also grateful that I’m too old or otherwise disengaged to have participated in most of the nonsense captured by that very funny comic (even if I am a Millennial supposedly responsible for the death of paper napkins).

  • I Quit My Job at 50 to Reinvent Myself. Pro Tip: Don’t Do This. I was drawn to this piece because of the Verizon connection, but after reading through it, I liked the underlying message about the cult of reinvention. Particularly around January, when so many people are up in arms about their resolutions.

  • Speaking of, while I’m not one to resolve to do anything, I am considering ways to reduce my use of plastic. Apparently, so is my local area, with Asbury Park enacting a ban on single-use plastic bags. What’s not lost on me, though, is the number caveats attached. There’s still room to improve across the board.

  • I’ve been writing a lot about ethical AI, which has me wondering about what it means in the medical world. Especially now that Google has entered the breast cancer detection arena. Of course, it’s only one study, but that doesn’t mean anything in today’s world. Rapid adoption abounds despite warning signs.

  • Coming next week: my annual reading list complete with a sleeper hit that snuck in just under the 2019 wire. Any guesses as to which book I’m referencing? Any recommendations for what to tackle next? I received a few for Christmas that I’m excited to get into this weekend.
