Greetings, hi, hello.

Welcome to my site. This is where I showcase my work and write about this thing called life. Enjoy!

Weekend coffee #111.

So in about two weeks, this blog will turn 10. Holy crap, that’s a long time. This week at work, there was a big debate over blogging and influence - what constitutes a following, etc. It’s interesting to see now only how the medium has evolved but also the world around it. Back in 2010, I took on sponsored content and things like that, whereas today, I look to this site more as a place to park some thoughts and share my work. On that note, here’s what that looks like this week:

  • Joaquin Phoenix wore the same tux all awards season. I’ve been thinking about sustainability lately and had a somewhat relevant experience with my winter coat. Less than two weeks old, I busted the zipper and took it to get repaired. Only to find out it would cost $65 to fix the zipper on a $75 coat. Crazy. While I didn’t want to get another one, I was able to return it to Nordstrom and pick up the same one (now on sale). So I ended up saving in the end but not without wasting an otherwise perfectly good coat.

  • Americans Don’t Appreciate Good Candy. I loved candy growing up, especially gummy stuff. So you can imagine how excited I was when our local movie theater put in a pick and mix for a while. It stocked the candy this writer is talking about, and I can totally get behind their point. Now, I’m pretty boring and stick to dark chocolate, but I’ll always advocate for the diversity of available treats.

  • Japan’s Lost-and-Found System Is Insanely Good. I listened to the Planet Money episode about escheat recently, which also explores the idea of lost property, albeit money. Not the best system, though. No surprise that Japan has the physical possession side of things more figured out than the rest of us.

  • In the Midst of a Border Crisis, Cooking Is About More Than Survival. I’d like to say that Bon Appetit puts out some fantastic content and is 100 percent worth the very affordable subscription fee. As a testament to that, read this article from their Taco Nation series and tell me you think differently. I’ll wait.

  • Kusama: Cosmic Nature. When we went to Japan a couple of years ago, I stumbled across a Kusama piece outside of a theater in Kyoto (I think). Either way, I remember being fascinated by this strange giant pumpkin, so I’m psyched to see this exhibit is coming up. Plus, you know, I have a thing for plants, which makes the experience even better. I’m actually running out of viable sunlight at my house.

Also worth your time:

That’s all for now - until next time, thanks for following along.
