Weekend coffee #109.
January was a very long month, and even though it’s a leap year, I’m welcoming February and its 29 days with open arms. Though I will say, overall, January was pretty productive. I dried out for 28 of 31 days, did a ton of writing, managed to switch my training over to a new location, stayed social despite my winter inclination to hibernate, made a much of plans for the upcoming weeks and months and didn’t lose my mind. I’d call that a win. Of course, fires are burning that I haven’t extinguished and the whole federal government falling apart thing, happening in the background. Fingers crossed for positive outcomes in 2020. Otherwise, here’s some of what I’ve been thinking about this week:
Paranoid Precautions I Take as a Single Woman. I don’t live alone, but do relate to this author, mainly because of my predilection for absorbing content that scares the hell out of me (TV, podcasts, etc.). While I’m pretty sure part of this is my brain chemistry, I suspect some of this comes from a fear that’s ingrained in women from youth.
Easy Vegetarian Calzones. Moving away from the scary stuff, let’s talk about food. Super Bowl Sunday is tomorrow, and while I’m not that interested in the game (or even the commercials), I do love the food. Calzones always make me thing of Parks and Rec, and I’m here for that too. So this year, I’m going to try my hand at this recipe.
The Bobbys. I’ve been a Radiolab fan for a long time, so I’m sad to see Robert Krulwich retire. I loved this sendoff, highlighting his quirks and charm, and putting an emphasis on all of the fun they had over the years. We all need more fun in our lives, especially at work. It doesn’t hurt that they talk about interesting topics, too.
Icefin Robot at Thwaites Glacier Grounding Zone. For someone who detests being cold, I have a real obsession with cold-weather destinations. Alaska blew my mind, and lately, I’ve been mulling over a trip to Antarctica. This video of a robot underneath a glacier is only contributing to my fascination.
Who Walks the Bridge in the Dead of Winter? (And What Are They Wearing?) Posts like this feed my voyeuristic tendencies. From clicking through on real estate listings to reading money diaries, I love knowing how other people approach life. And I low key miss New York.
Also worth your time:
Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos (to go with calzones?!)
That’s all for now. Until next time - thanks for following along!
